Minnesota: How to Stop IRS Collections?

Updated: Aug 23

I represent taxpayers in the Twin Cities, Minnesota and all the 50 States in the United State before all administrative levels—examination, collection, and appeals—of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). For you to stop IRS Collections you must understand the collection process.

The first step to stop IRS Collections is to call the IRS(the phone number to call is on the IRS notice/letter). It sounds simple but very important. The IRS might be planning to levy your bank account, garnish your wages or enforce other collection actions on your assets, time is of the essence. On the phone you should ask the Revenue Officer/Agent for time to get into Compliance if you have unfiled returns.

Tax Compliance means filing all the missing returns (last 6 years), being current on your tax withholding (W-2 employee), current year Estimated Tax Payments(Self Employed) and Current quarter payroll tax deposits(Business).

Secondly, you want to consider the collection alternatives available to taxpayers who cannot to you as a result of the IRS Fresh Start initiative programs. You might qualify for

  • Offer -in – Compromise (OIC) – This is when you offer to settle your tax debt for less based upon an inability to full- pay.

  • Currently – not- Collectable (“CNC”) – simply cannot pay right now

  • Installment Agreement – Form of Payment Plan.

If you or someone you know have federal or state tax issue such as Income, Payroll, Sales tax, please feel free to contact me at either (612) 216 3565 or by email at joe.alabi@fishcointax.com.
